Course Curriculum

Film Composition 

Week One 

Discover the building blocks of great visuals. Learn how to frame shots, balance your scenes, and use composition to tell compelling stories through the lens.

Storytelling

Week Two 

Learn to write stories by breaking down classic narrative structures and building complex characters from the ground up. Through hands-on storyboarding exercises, you’ll translate your written ideas into visual blueprints, learning exactly how to map out every camera angle and beat before the first day of production.

Camera Settings

Week Three 

Become a master of the lens by diving deep into aperture, shutter speed, and lens selection. Through active practice, you’ll learn the technical 'why' behind every setting and the physical 'how' of handling professional gear and tripods, ensuring you’re ready to capture high-quality footage in any environment.

Lighting

Week Four

Move beyond basic visibility to understand the Three-Point Lighting system, gaining hands-on experience with Key, Fill, and Hair lights to create depth and dimension. We will test your skills in real-world scenario where you will light and shoot a professional-style interview, learning to balance natural and artificial sources to control the mood and style of your frame.

Audio

Week Five

Sound is the soul of cinema. In this module you can test and compare various microphones to understand their unique purposes. We’ll show you the industry secrets for syncing audio and capturing professional-grade sound on the go, whether you’re shooting with a full crew or just your mobile device.

Camera Movement

Week Six

Dive deep into dynamic camera movement, giving you the chance to practice panning, tracking, and dolly shots using professional gear. You’ll learn how to quickly set up and operate both tripods and motorized gimbals, giving you the technical confidence to capture smooth, stabilized footage that brings your story to life.

Editing

Week Seven

Bring your story together in the edit suite. We teach you the proper way to organize and ingest footage so you never lose a shot, followed by an intensive dive into Adobe Premiere Pro. You’ll learn the techniques for precision cutting, adding dynamic transitions, and layering sound effects to create professional-quality videos that captivate your audience.

Short Film Project

Week Eight, Nine, & Ten

Put it all together! Collaborate with your peers to create a short film from start to finish. From pre-production to the final edit, this is your chance to showcase everything you’ve learned.
