๐ฌ Summer Filmmaking Program (Ages 14โ18) For High School Kids Dates: July 8 โ July 31, 2025 Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays Time: 1:00 PM โ 5:00 PM Location: 7059 Blair Rd NW Suite 101 Washington, DC 20012 Tuition: $2,999 Capacity: Limited to 12 students Includes: Instruction, equipment use, software access, and participation in the Baltimore 48 Hour Film Project ๐น Program Overview This 4-week hands-on summer filmmaking experience is designed for aspiring young filmmakers. Students will work collaboratively to learn the entire filmmaking process from idea to final cut. The program ends with participation in the Baltimore 48 Hour Film Project, where students will create a film under real festival conditions. ๐ Curriculum Breakdown WEEK 1 โ Introduction & Story Development Dates: July 8 & July 10 Program introduction & team building Understanding storytelling and cinematic structure Brainstorming session: students pitch ideas Basics of screenwriting Write a short film script in groups WEEK 2 โ Pre-Production & Production Planning Dates: July 15 & July 17 Script breakdown: identifying locations, props, cast, and crew needs Introduction to directing, shot lists, and storyboarding Camera basics (framing, exposure, focus) Lighting techniques for small productions Sound essentials: microphones & capturing quality audio Casting, scheduling, and preparing to shoot WEEK 3 โ Production Week Dates: July 22 & July 24 Hands-on filming of the short film Students rotate through crew positions (camera, sound, director, etc.) Daily reviews and feedback sessions Troubleshooting production challenges WEEK 4 โ Post-Production & Film Festival Prep Dates: July 29 & July 31 Introduction to editing software (Adobe Premiere or CapCut) Editing footage, adding music and sound Color correction and finalizing audio Exporting the film and submitting to the 48 Hour Film Project Screening and celebration with families invited (optional) ๐๏ธ Final Project: Students will participate as a team in the Baltimore 48 Hour Film Project, applying everything theyโve learned under time constraints, just like the pros. โ What's Included: Hands-on training with professional gear Industry-standard software and editing workstations Mentorship from experienced filmmakers Film submitted to the 48 Hour Film Project

Cancellation Policy
DC Media Academy Course Cancellation Policy At DC Media Academy, we are committed to providing quality education and a great learning experience. We understand plans can change, so weโve outlined our cancellation policy to ensure fairness and clarity for all participants. Cancellation by Participants Cancellation Deadline Participants may cancel their enrollment up to 7 days before the course start date to receive a full refund. Cancellations made between 6-1 days before the course start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after the 2nd week of classes. Requesting a Cancellation All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to Ricardo@washdm.com. Refunds, if applicable, will be processed within 7-10 business days. Transfer of Enrollment Participants may transfer their enrollment to a future course or another participant at no additional cost, provided the request is made at least 7 days before the course start date. Cancellation by DC Media Academy Academy-Initiated Cancellations DC Media Academy reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course due to low enrollment, unforeseen circumstances, or other valid reasons. In such cases, participants will be notified at least 3 days in advance and offered a full refund or the option to transfer their enrollment to a future course. Whether or Emergency-Related Cancellations In the event of severe weather or emergencies, classes may be postponed. DC Media Academy will communicate any changes as soon as possible and provide rescheduling options. Special Circumstances Participants facing extraordinary situations (e.g., medical emergencies) may request exceptions to the standard cancellation policy. These will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
